Cobblemon Basics
Cobblemon is a Minecraft mod that adds Pokémon to the game. This guide covers the core mechanics you need to know.
Catching Pokémon
Pokémon spawn naturally throughout the world. To catch one:
- Weaken it first — throw a Poké Ball at a Pokémon to initiate a battle
- Deal damage — use your Pokémon’s moves to lower the wild Pokémon’s HP
- Throw a Poké Ball — right-click with a Poké Ball to attempt a catch
Tip: The lower the wild Pokémon’s HP, the higher your catch rate. Status conditions like Sleep and Paralysis also increase catch rates.
Poké Ball Types
| Ball | Best Used For |
|---|---|
| Poké Ball | Common Pokémon |
| Great Ball | Uncommon Pokémon |
| Ultra Ball | Rare Pokémon |
| Master Ball | Legendary Pokémon (guaranteed catch) |
| Net Ball | Water and Bug types |
| Dusk Ball | Caves and nighttime |
Battling
Battles in Cobblemon are turn-based, just like the mainline Pokémon games.
Move Types
Every move has a type (Fire, Water, Grass, etc.) and a category:
- Physical — uses the Pokémon’s Attack stat
- Special — uses the Pokémon’s Special Attack stat
- Status — inflicts conditions (Paralysis, Sleep, Burn, etc.)
Type Chart
Understanding type matchups is essential. Key rules:
- Super Effective (2×) — deal double damage
- Not Very Effective (0.5×) — deal half damage
- Immune (0×) — deal no damage
Training Your Pokémon
Experience Points
Your Pokémon gain EXP from battles. When they reach enough EXP, they level up and may learn new moves or evolve.
EVs and IVs
For competitive play, EVs (Effort Values) and IVs (Individual Values) matter:
- IVs are fixed at birth — use the
/checkivscommand to see them - EVs are gained through battling specific Pokémon — use the PokéBuilder to optimize them
Evolution
Most Pokémon evolve at a specific level. Some require special conditions:
- Trade Evolution — trade with another player
- Stone Evolution — use a specific stone item
- Friendship Evolution — raise your Pokémon’s happiness
